You may have noticed that of the people around you some speak LOUD and some speak softly, some are tenors/sopranos and others are bass/altos, some speak very very fast and others m o r e s l o w l y.

If you review business, social and networking events that you have attended, you may realize that like speaks to like with the LOUD people in one group, those speaking s l o w l y in another. And this is wonderful! These are the people with whom you are most comfortable and they are at ease with you. They will do business with you or refer others to you.

So that leaves all the others who do it another way. Can you afford to lose that business?

Studies have shown that the actual words we use are 7% effective. While the delivery medium, speed of words, volume, pitch, tone & tempo are 38% effective. Paying attention to and matching one or more of these can make your message over 5 times more effective.

So, the next time -

  1.     Listen to how the other person does it
  2.     Match the speed or the volume
  3.     Do this on a consistent basis and your business will increase
